WRc is proud to have accumulated almost a century of water sector and environmental knowledge. What is really important is ensuring that this knowledge is shared with those people who want, and need, to know for now and beyond. How do we overcome the increasing pressures facing our industry such as:

  • Climate change impacting on the quality and resilience of resources?
  • Decreasing customer acceptability, affordability and appreciation for the value of water?
  • Ageing assets needing replacing or renovation more frequently than currently planned?
  • More colleagues leaving the industry than joining, creating a resource, knowledge and skills gap?

How can this be done?

1. Passion

To overcome these challenges, the industry needs dedicated and skilled individuals (with rounded perspectives across supply chain, industry, policy and regulation) who are enthusiastic to transfer this knowledge - know-how, know-why and know-who - to both current and future generations of the water industry.

Training facilitators should take joy in supporting skill development and increased knowledge from theory, technology, techniques, practical or best practice guidance, to result in better decision making and enhanced problem solving abilities. They can take pride in providing colleagues with opportunities to connect with peers and fostering creativity to build strong relationships that result in new ways of thinking and new ways of doing.

2. Flexibility

Effective knowledge transfer that receives high engagement from a wide-ranging learner base requires courses which are shaped to behavioural preferences. This ensures effective communication for learners with all levels of experience, enhancing existing employees' expertise and developing new recruits’ knowledge of these exciting sectors. Course content must also be adaptable and flexible, ensuring clients' capabilities we are able to stay front and centre in the rapidly changing world.

It takes time to grow technical competence and fully embed world-class knowledge transfer and training. This involves building long-term, sustainable relationships with clients, and being available to respond to technical queries whenever they arise and provide further coaching / support as it is needed.

We firmly believe that the water industry’s current challenges require solutions that will stand the test of time, and that are built on solid scientific and engineering knowledge and know-how. WRc Academy was created to be part of the solution to these critical challenges by building greater expertise and sustainable capability to a wide range of stakeholders through training and knowledge sharing.
