Whether you're looking for solutions for upcoming projects or insights into cutting-edge technologies, our experts will be on hand to assist. You can find them at stand EN-I11 in the EDF (Energy, Fuels, and Decarbonisation) section of ESS’s convention, next to RWM.
Meet our team of Waste Doctors:
Dr Kathy Lewin - Director of Waste & Resources
Kathy has over 3 decades’ experience in waste characterisation to support resource recovery, waste classification and environmental risk assessment. She is responsible for the commercial and operational aspects of the Waste & Resources business, but retains technical expertise in waste characterisation particularly in residues from energy from waste. Kathy most enjoys customer feedback reviews, preferably on-site after an EfW facility tour!
Jane Turrell - Technical Director, Waste & Resources
Jane is a national expert in waste sampling and testing, she was co-author of the sampling standard BS EN 14899 and led the development of the ESA IBA Protocol. Jane has 35 years’ experience in designing waste characterisation projects for industry and regulators and is an expert in the Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) classification and hazard property assessments for a wide range of wastes. She also has expertise in assessing environmental risks to soil and groundwater from industrial and waste activities, statistically based sampling programmes, metal speciation and biodegradability testing. Maintaining the technical excellence of our client solutions is her priority.
Dr Stewart Davies - Principal Consultant
Stewart is technical lead for our thermal treatment projects and has been closely involved in the development of the Best Available Techniques (BAT) review for Energy from Waste. He has also contributed to the monitoring, reporting and verification processes for the extension of the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) to the EfW sector. He has over 20 years’ experience as an academic, consultant and environmental manager in operational waste management and is an expert in stationary source emissions monitoring, as well as general waste sector compliance.
Richard McKinlay - Principal Consultant
Richard is a process engineer with over 12 years’ experience in waste and recycling. Richard specialises in the development and evaluation of separation and recycling processes for a range of materials including Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), Automotive Shredder Residue (ASR), packaging and construction products. Using his knowledge and experience, Richard also provides support to brands, retailers and product designers to improve product recyclability and circularity.
Dr Paul Eades - Commercial Manager
Paul has over ten years’ waste consultancy experience. As a technical lead for many Energy from Waste (EfW) projects he has helped municipal waste and biomass facility clients through the challenges of start-up monitoring during commissioning and follow-up support during routine operations. He supports the team with complex decisions on data processing and interpretation. Paul has a background in environmental engineering, energy and waste flow modelling and technology evaluation.
Claudia Peppicelli - Waste & Resources Consultant
Claudia is a chemical engineer with expert skills in the use of our advanced characterisation toolbox including metal speciation techniques. She collaborates with synchrotron specialists and undertakes complex data modelling to assess (Energy from Waste) EfW and shredder residue chemistry. She has also managed investigations into levels of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) (including PFAS and flame retardants), for a range of wastes including Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), soft furnishings, carpets, paper mill inputs and outputs and C&D waste.
Finlay Nelson - Materials Testing Consultant
Finlay has a Masters in Chemical Engineering. He plays an essential role in on-site and laboratory activities that underpin national waste stream Research & Development (R&D) projects for industry and regulators. He has implemented methods for flammable gas production monitoring and assessment of carbon capture in thermal treatment residues, and is principal operator of our portable X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF).
Vivien Lim - Materials Testing Consultant
Vivien has a background in Materials Science and Chemical Engineering. She conducts specialist laboratory work for bespoke projects and analysing results. She also manages complex datasets and develops dynamic tools to support national monitoring programmes. Recent projects include free lime assessment, helping clients to implement the requirements of the Industrial Emissions Directive, and leachability testing of air pollution control residues.
