Peter Henley

Peter is a recognised industry professional in wastewater infrastructure with a particular focus on sewer operations, condition assessment and rising main operation. He has worked on sewer operational best practice guides and leads delivery of technical training in sewer condition classification, drain investigation and drain repair both in the UK and internationally. Peter is a CCTV specialist, and a CCTV technical champion within WRc.

Course overview

The programme is designed to underpin the process of sewer condition assessment identifying the need for repair and the selection of the most appropriate techniques. Delegates will be able to build on the following knowledge and skills:

  • The best practice requirements for sewer CCTV inspection,
  • Correctly identify and classify features and defects in drains and sewers,
  • Correctly complete sewer inspection reports to a recognised international standard,
  • The importance of correctly commissioning and interpreting sewer investigations,
  • Monitoring the quality of CCTV inspection work.

Training outline

  • Introduction to CCTV inspection: this module looks at the origins of sewer networks and the role of condition assessment plays in maintaining their performance.
  • Background to technical issues in sewers: looks at issues that impact on sewer performance and which defects are typically associated with these failures.
  • Overview of condition categorisation: covers the structure of the MSCC classification system.
  • Coding forms – Asset or Header Information: looks at the essential MSCC requirements for asset data collection.
  • Pipeline Condition Information - reporting requirements principles: looks at the essential MSCC requirements for pipeline condition collection.
  • Sewer condition classification codes: 4 sub-modules explain the different categories of observations and how they are applied: Structural Defects; Service Defects; Construction Features; Miscellaneous Features
  • Manhole codes: covers the observations and defects associated with manholes and chambers.
  • Course Assessment – Defect Recognition and Identification: delegates will complete an assessment at the end of the course in which they are required to identify and classify features and defects in drains and sewers.
