In 2009, the Government introduced the National Calculation Methodology to assess water efficiency in new dwellings, which was required for compliance with the Code for Sustainable Homes and Building Regulations Approved Document Part G. At the time, the Water Calculation Methodology for New Dwellings was a separate document, and there was a need for a reliable, accessible tool to help industry professionals accurately calculate water efficiency in line with these requirements.
WRc developed a free-to-use online calculator to support the new regulations and methodology. The tool was designed to simplify the process for calculating water efficiency in new homes, ensuring compliance with the relevant guidelines. Fully funded by WRc, the site was developed in alignment with the Government’s National Calculation Methodology and subsequent updates. It was also endorsed by LABC (Local Authority Building Control) and the BCA (Building Control Alliance) for its accuracy and reliability.
The Part G Water Efficiency Calculator quickly became a trusted resource within the building and construction sectors. Many building control bodies still recommend its use today, as the calculation methodology has remained unchanged since its inception. The tool continues to provide a vital service for ensuring water efficiency in new dwellings, contributing to the sustainability of the housing sector.
