Client: a UAE water distribution utility

Our client for this programme is responsible for distributing water and electricity to a large customer base in the Middle East, including both residential and commercial users. It manages the infrastructure supporting millions of customers and focuses on improving energy efficiency and water conservation through innovative technologies and initiatives.

The Challenge

To support our client's dedication to operational excellence and drive for continuous improvement, WRc were engaged to further enhance the capabilities of Operations and Maintenance employees - including Technicians, Operators, Supervisors and Engineers.

A comprehensive bespoke training programme was designed by WRc's technical experts and training specialists, with a focus on both technical proficiency and key behavioural competencies, to allow our client to fully realise their workforce's potential.

The Solution

WRc delivered a comprehensive two-tier training programme in-country, supporting more than 200 delegates over a one-year cycle. The programme aimed to: (1) build fundamental knowledge; and, (2) enhance skills and expertise, across six water-related courses (including one electrical training module). The 2-stage courses encompassed the following topics which were tailored to the client's regulatory requirements; operational processes; and employee skills and roles:

  • Ensuring Quality of Drinking Water For Customer Supply;
  • Water Network Operations;
  • Water Pumping Stations;
  • Maintenance Forecasting and Planning and Execution;
  • Ensuring Quality of Recycled Water For Customer Supply; and
  • Asset Quality Assurance and Leak Detection Management.

Delivered through a structured and interactive approach, the training encouraged collaboration and discussion, supported by detailed manuals in both printed and digital formats to serve as valuable resources. Competency tests ensured understanding, with certificates of completion provided to delegates.

    The Outcome

    WRc’s skilled trainers and technical experts facilitated attendees’ learning of detailed, technical knowledge to allow them to perform their duties to the highest quality and efficiency.

    The programme not only improved safety awareness but also boosted employee confidence, job satisfaction, and retention, fostering continuous learning and excellence in water resource management.

    The diverse range of training courses, led by experts in their fields and enriched with real-world case studies, equipped our staff with in-depth technical knowledge and gave us confidence in their expertise and skillsets.
