Proven Confidence for CIPP Systems

Following a collaborative project led by WRc with six UK water companies, the Government of Jersey, and eight CIPP suppliers, WIS 4-34-07 Specification for Leak Tightness Testing of CIPP Lining Systems has now been published. This specification gives the water industry a consistent, reliable way to assess leak tightness and identify products that help reduce groundwater infiltration into already stretched sewer networks. With growing regulatory pressure and AMP8 investment focused on cutting sewer spills and improving network resilience, independent performance testing is increasingly essential. 

As a key contributor to the development of the method, WRc now offers leak tightness testing for CIPP systems, end seals, and connection collars in accordance with WIS 4-34-07, giving manufacturers verified performance data and helping clients specify solutions with confidence.

The work undertaken by WRc to devise the CP655 infiltration testing method for cured-in-place pipe materials has been pivotal in setting a new industry standard. This approach provides consistency across the water sector, ensuring sewer assets are structurally enhanced while confidently mitigating groundwater infiltration. Throughout the process, the project liaison group has been fully engaged and has constructively contributed to shaping the outcomes. As a result, the bar has been raised across the supply chain, with a growing number of suppliers now achieving approval status against the CP655 criteria – a milestone that reflects real progress for our industry.
